Fred and Lydia Take London by Storm
by Marie Lawrence
|
Lydia is on her way to Miss Spider's when she encounters the learned and charismatic Frederick T. Frog. Dressed in Renaissance attire, Frederick loves to recite verse by Shakespeare, sing songs on his lute and, with his great oratory skills, is about to embark on a tour to spread culture and even become a poet of the New Age. He asks Lydia, if she would like to play the part of Juliet opposite him in the play Romeo and Juliet.
One day, an ambitious talent scout by the name of Mr. Riley who has spent weeks searching the globe to find a novelty act for his variety show happens to land his plane near where Lydia and Fred are rehearsing.
Riley discovers them and seizes the opportunity to bring them to the London stage where, he tells them, they will become an overnight sensation! All is going well until it is opening night at the theatre. Fred and Lydia are to make their spectacular debut. But where is Fred?
This wonderful fantasy will keep you charmed from beginning to end. The illustrations add a rich dimension to the story accentuating its wit, humor and imagination. This is a great story to introduce your child to the Bard. There's an excellent biography about him written especially for young readers and a clever weaving of Shakespeare's quotes throughout the story.
